Dragster, Stream of thought

Okay, this has been rumbling for quite some time. Just read ussmariner post and a line caught my eye and my mind. It went something like, if you want 5 cents, don't ask or 3 cents. Okay, I would probably hope to make 2 cents work and die trying, what a noble effort (i would tell myself). So I need a 5 cent plan. One that is equitable and Elliot can grow and be nourished in. I want to race. Really I want to put on a good show and have others compelled to do the same. The smell and sound of nitro in the air. Long, smokey burnouts, dry hops to the line and wheels up launches. Cut great lights and turn on the win light more often than not. Talent and tuning without any electronics to pick up the lack. Pits are for hospitality and reaction time game is a destination. Food is great and drinks welcome on a warm afternoon. The whole operation shows up at many locations to give the curious a hands on embrace of this work of art.
So what will it all cost? Will other's hearts be touched? Will their soul be stirred in ways that call for embracing this sport? Not for me to decide who responds. Rather, my desire is to honor history and the artform as well as the community itself.

Value

Rule and money govern our society. What about the common good?

Parity

It's a little funny that equality needs rules. It's nothing what we thought it would be. What is equality? A close race? Is it measured by money? Intellect? Physical status? There has been discussion about how to keep the various classes of cars close in performance while maintaining diverse styles of combinations. Pump sizes and tire widths seem to be coming between friends. Sanctioning bodies and the leaders are targets. Many opinions are thrown about. My question why are we doing all of this? Why are we here? To race? To cross the finish line before the other guy? A need for speed? "Nitro is the show" is bantered about. He with the most money... Ego driven souls are a part. What about the fans, the crew members, the families, the kids? The future?

I might be stating the obvious here, but it bears repeating. It's the social aspect of the sport that brings all of in. Each of us reponds in our own way, but we do identify with each other on a heart level. Some are mature, some are not, most don't even think about it. In the clinical sense it can be described as a systematic way to define others and themselves. Over time we become vested in its successes and failures. Nostalgia, vintage, old school call it what you will, is offering a soul expression of that aspect of drag racing which is largely lost with today's NHRA fiasco. Good Guys, good time and "we want you here" mentality is quite compelling.

So what do we do with parity?

Health

Sickness can be a great measure of health. Often health is taken for granted as immortality is a limited time offer. Once you are discounted and your pull date arrives, all that laying around prepares you for even more of the same. Rick and DAve Hough of Nanook fame are preparing for today and dealing with the future. Priorities were just defined again. Sickness adversion is now taken from the "do" column. Soon they will roll a seven ...

Nitromater

Those guys at nitro mater seem like good folk. The fact that nobody is face to face as they communicate does contribute to a different kind dialog. Then there is those nazi moderators. Who is this Shannon, a Nancy Grace clone? Lots of opinions flying around intermixed with several funny comments. The Grand Richard appears to be gone. Too bad, he was the wisest of them all. But the margins are full of wise people. There are a few wise one's left and they keep a much more politically correct stance and that is all good too.

The ethos of forums such as these are fragile at best. Nitroland is so far gone now that it is but a joke nobody wants to tell anymore. It's fragile soul has burst long ago. Coonce got out before it bled out. Mater is trying to control the herd of cats as if they were meant to be turtles. We'll see where it goes.
